Why I love my Series One Jaguar XJ
We're just hours away from seeing the all-new Jaguar XJ in the flesh and as the very proud custodian of a Series One Jaguar XJ6, I may be a bit more enthusiastic than others. For ten months of every twelve, the XJ that started it all does little but siphon the contents of my bank account. But then I drive the thing and it all makes perfect, beautiful sense. Not only does it make me feel the most special man alive, there are few modern cars out there that have such an accomplished ride quality.
As weird as this may sound, I really want the new XJ to be a thoroughly modern car. You have to remember that when the XJ was originally designed, there wasn't a twee panel in sight. This was Jaguar at the forefront of design, challenging our preconceptions of what a luxury saloon should be. It's about time Jaguar challenged us once again.
